Mining and development in Chile: a vision of the future

On November 28, 2024, Mr. Juan Carlos Guajardo, Founder and Executive Director of Plusmining, gave a lecture entitled: “Mining and Development in Chile: A Vision of the Future.”

Juan Carlos Guajardo Beltrán is a prominent executive with more than 25 years of experience in the mining industry and strategic consulting. As founder and CEO of Plusmining, a firm established in 2015, he has positioned it as a benchmark in analysis and consulting within the mining sector.

Previously, he was Executive Director of the Center for Copper and Mining Studies (CESCO), where he championed mining policy debates and spearheaded high-profile events, such as Asia Copper Week in Shanghai. His experience also includes leadership roles at the Chilean Copper Commission (COCHILCO) and as an economist at the International Copper Studies Group (ICSG) in Portugal, where he contributed significantly to the development of studies and statistics on the global copper market.

Mr. Guajardo holds a PhD in International Economics and Development from the Complutense University of Madrid and has complemented his training with advanced programs in Japan and Sweden. He has been a member of the Chilean Ministry of Finance’s Committee of Experts on Copper Prices since 2004 and has served on the International Affairs Committee of the PDAC in Canada. His speaking engagements at international conferences distinguish him as a thought leader on mining issues, and his international network of contacts, particularly in Asia and Latin America, allows him to offer a strategic perspective and effective solutions tailored to the complexities of the global mining industry.
