José Marun is a prominent Mining Engineer graduated from the National University of San Juan, Argentina, with more than 38 years of international leadership experience in the mining industry. Throughout his career, he has managed all areas of the mining business across five countries: Argentina, Venezuela, Australia, Peru, and Chile. He also possesses a strong executive background, highlighted by postgraduate studies in Extractive Metallurgy and his participation in the London Business School's Global Business Consortium program for CEOs in 2008.
His executive trajectory includes top-level responsibilities in global companies. Between 2011 and 2015, he served as Executive VP of Southern Cone Operations for Xstrata Copper, and later as General Manager and Industrial Lead of copper operations for Glencore Plc in Argentina and Chile. During these periods, he led teams of up to 15,000 people and served as Chairman for major mining projects and companies such as Minera Alumbrera, Xstrata Tintaya, and Las Bambas. Following this, from 2015 to 2018, he took on the role of CEO and Executive President of Komatsu Mitsui Maquinarias del Perú. Earlier in his career, he accumulated key operational experience as a Concentrator Manager in Australia (Ernest Henry Mining) and Argentina, after starting out in the 1980s and 1990s in engineering, supervisory, and university teaching roles in his home country.
Since 2017, Marún has focused his expertise on corporate governance, serving as an active Board of Directors member for various industry companies, including Minera Poderosa, San Ignacio de Morococha, and Saxum Engineering. Furthermore, he expanded his international presence in 2023 by joining the board of the Canadian gold producer Ascot Resources, the same year he served as co-chair of the Science and Engineering segment at the World Mining Congress in Brisbane, Australia.
