U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that, as of Tuesday, March 4, tariffs of 25% will take effect on Canada and Mexico, countries that, according to the Republican, had no negotiating room to avoid this measure. The decision is based on security concerns and aims to curb the trafficking of fentanyl, a powerful opioid responsible for thousands of deaths each year in the United States.
Additionally, the president announced that a further 10% tariff on Chinese imports will be implemented, which will be added to the 10% tariff already in place since February 4, raising the total tariff burden to 20% on these products.
In an interview with Más Que Números, Juan Carlos Guajardo, founder and CEO of Plusmining, discussed the tariffs imposed by the United States on Canada, China, and Mexico, and the potential impact of a tariff increase on copper in Chile.
